Lilacpane / FREE PRACTICAL TOOL

Image compressor

Adjust JPEG or WebP quality and image dimensions. Compare previews and file sizes, then download images or a ZIP locally. PNG is supported; smaller files are not guaranteed.

Static JPEG, PNG and WebP. Up to 20 files, 20 MB each and 80 MB total. Inputs must be within 16 megapixels and 8,192 pixels per side.

Images stay in this browser and are not uploaded. Refreshing or closing the page clears your selection.
Processing settings

Lower JPEG / WebP quality and smaller dimensions can lose detail. PNG preserves decoded pixels when dimensions are unchanged, but may not be smaller. Re-encoding may remove metadata or change colour appearance.

    How to use

    1. Choose images

Select one or more static images or drag them into the tool.

    2. Set options and process

Choose a format and quality, optionally reducing the longest edge. PNG uses lossless re-encoding and ignores the quality slider.

    3. Preview and download

Compare original and processed previews, actual sizes and savings, then download individually or as a ZIP.

Reduce image file size, then check the result

For a file-size limit such as 200 KB, work toward the limit by comparing real output sizes. The tool does not automatically guarantee a target size.

    1. Start with JPEG or WebP

Try a quality of 80% and process the image. Use WebP to keep transparency, or choose a background colour for JPEG.

    2. Reduce dimensions if needed

If the file is still too large, enable longest-edge resizing. Try 1600 pixels, then a smaller edge or lower quality, and process again.

    3. Check size and detail

Compare the displayed file size and previews. Keep the version that meets your limit with enough detail, then download it or a ZIP.

80% is an encoder setting, not a promise of 80% smaller files. PNG ignores the quality slider; already optimized files may become larger.

    Common questions

How do PNG and JPEG handle transparency?

PNG and WebP can retain transparent areas. JPEG requires a solid background, using your selected colour.

Will compression always make files smaller?

No. Optimized images or re-encoded PNGs may become larger. Results show actual sizes. Try lower quality, smaller dimensions or WebP / JPEG.

Are HEIC, GIF and animations supported?

This version supports static JPEG, PNG and WebP only. HEIC, GIF, SVG and animated images are not supported. If your browser cannot encode WebP, select PNG or JPEG.

    Does compression reduce image quality?

Lower JPEG / WebP quality and smaller dimensions can lose detail. PNG preserves decoded pixels when dimensions are unchanged, but may not be smaller. Re-encoding may remove metadata or change colour appearance.
